The council members of Muli island in Meemu atoll remain grateful for the incumbent administration’s development vision.

As part of his recent tour of five islands in Meemu atoll, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the members of Muli council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) on Sunday.

During the meeting where extensive discussions were held, the council members expressed deep appreciation for the president’s decision to consult with them about the administration’s development plans

Expressing gratitude to the president for his efforts to develop the island communities, the island council went on to share the community’s most pressing needs and concerns with the president.

The issues raised include renovating the harbor, improving healthcare services at the Muli Regional Hospital, addressing coastal erosion and resolving space constraints as well as other challenges facing the island council.

Discussions also revolved around addressing the increase of drug abuse on the island which has been dubbed one of the community’s most significant social issues.

Listening to these concerns, President Solih assured the councilors that he will work with the national task force combatting drug-related offences to find ways to address the issue and requested the council to present a report on the matter.

The councilors were also briefed on the administration’s development plans.

As such he noted that the administration will seek ways to expedite the renovation of the harbor and revealed that the Ministry of Health has already commenced a survey on healthcare sector improvements.

President Solih received a warm welcome in Muli island.

This is his first time visiting the island since assuming office.

Raiymandhoo was the president’s first destination of the tour, which he began on Saturday morning.

President Solih toured five islands of Meemu atoll during the three-day tour; Raiymandhoo, Maduvvari, Dhiggaru, Veyvah and Muli. Muli is the last leg of the president’s visit to five islands in Meemu atoll.

He was accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials.

During the visits, the president inspected the progress of the ongoing development projects in these islands.

He also sat down with island councils and Women’s Development Committees of the respective islands.
