MMS went on to reveal that the weather will be adverse on some days over the next fortnight, with which the department remains unsure when the squally weather will clear up.

In light of the worsening weather conditions, the department has been issuing a number of white and yellow alerts across the Maldives this monsoon season.

Further, over the next 48 hours winds will be from west to northwesterly at 13 – 23 miles per hour, with winds gusting at 45 miles per hour.

Seas are expected to be rough during rain showers, throughout the country throughout upcoming week.

MMS also revealed that swell wave surges are expected during high tide times, with wave height expected between 4 – 7 feet.

The department also issued a white alert from Haa Alif atoll to Thaa atoll on Friday, after predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms, strong winds of 22 – 27 miles per hour with gusts of 45 miles per hour and rough seas

The white alert will be effective through 8pm, Friday.

Due to adverse southwest monsoon conditions prevailing over the entire Maldives currently, some islands have been experiencing swell waves surges during high tides as well.

At a time the department has urged caution over the squally weather conditions, the National Disaster Management Authority also urged caution for seafarers and instructed individuals to pay special attention to safety precautions when travelling at sea. Seafarers have been urged to ensure their safety gear and communications work properly before beginning their journeys.

MMS predicts heavy rainfall across the Maldives through June, July, August and September this year. Rain showers heavier than usual storms are also expected to prevail across different regions throughout the ongoing month.
