Authorities have urged the public to not circulate videos that soil the sanctity of children.

This comes at a time a video showing a young student getting assaulted, has been circulating on social media. The video shows a child sitting in a chair with a book on the child’s lap. Another child is seen attempting to snatch the book and later on, is seen attacking the child who was sitting in the chair, with the book and a school bag.

At a time the video has gone viral on social media, Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has urged the public to stop circulating the video, citing Article 33 of the Child Rights Protection Act, which states that photos or videos of children or even their personal information must not be circulated in a way that will soil the child’s sanctity.

As the video shows a child being attacked, the authorities have urged media houses as well as members of the general public to stop circulating it.

The Ministry of Education has launched probes into the case.
