Yameen Rasheed murder
The police lied to the public: Ahmed Tholaal
The police previously said that they have identified those responsible for Yameen Rasheed’s murder
However, the police told his family that they have yet to do so
The police further said on Sunday that the men had worn ‘disguises’

The police have lied to the Maldivian people by stating that they had ascertained the identities of those that murdered writer and pro-democracy activist Yameen Rasheed, said Ahmed Tholaal, the former deputy commissioner at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives.

At a press conference on the 25th of April, Ahmed Nawaz – a deputy commissioner of police – said that the institution has identified those responsible for Yameen Rasheed’s murder. However, the police told the writer’s family that they have yet to do so.

Tholaal responded to this inconsistency through a tweet on Sunday.

In another tweet he had also said that those that curtail the investigation would be held accountable.

While the police had publicized screencaptures of two suspects from a CCTV camera inside Yameen’s residence – where he was murdered – they said on Sunday that the men had worn ‘disguises’.

However, the police’s photographs show that at least one of the suspects to reveal his face.
