The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) revealed that 102 cases of drug abuse were forwarded to courts in July alone, which makes up 51 percent of the total cases forwarded to courts.

A total of 199 cases were forwarded for prosecution in July.

37 other cases were submitted, with cases linked to property being identified as the third highest category in which cases were received.

Other cases forwarded for prosecution in this period include 18 cases of theft, 10 cases of alcohol consumption, eight cases of violence and gang assault and four cases of child sexual abuse.

44 percent of the cases received in July were connected to freshly pressed charges.

The PG Office had forwarded charges to courts in connection with several different cases, with hearings for a total of 402 cases having proceeded at 59 courts spanning the country.

Further, hearings for 278 different cases were cancelled within this period.

Statistics further indicate that most of cases concluded by courts other than the drug court include cases of theft.

The hearings for eight cases linked to theft had concluded within the period.

Further other cases included cases linked to unlawful influence over someone else’s property, deliberate entry into prohibited places as well as consumption of alcohol.

The Prosecutor General’s Office went on to note that the authority had reached success in 81 percent of the cases in the period. As such, 39 cases were a success.

In the period, seven cases were unproven, with charges annulled in two cases.
