As such, heavy showers and thunderstorms have been predicted to prevail across most of the Maldives over the course of the next three days.

Central and northern atolls will particularly experience strong winds and rough seas as well as swell wave surges in the next few days.

MMS has urged caution due to the adverse weather conditions, especially seafarers who have been urged to take the required precautions before travelling.

In addition to this, the department issued a white alert across the entire country after predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms, strong winds of 19 – 24 miles per hour with gusts of 45 miles per hour and rough seas in the region. The white alert will be effective through 05:30pm.

With Maldives currently in southwest monsoon, the weather remains occasionally rainy, with a few thunderstorms. Some islands have been experiencing swell waves surges during high tides as well as flooding due to heavy showers.
