Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued a white alert due to adverse weather conditions.
The department revealed that the white alert is effective from 11am through 5pm on Wednesday.
The white alert was issued from Kaafu atoll to southernmost Seenu atoll, Addu City.
The advisory states that heavy rain and thunderstorms with gusts of 40 miles per hour are expected over the region.
Further, rough seas are also expected to prevail across the entire country during showers.
The department has also urged seafarers to remain alert in event of the worsening weather condition, with a wave height of three to six feet is expected during showers across the entire country.
MMS also revealed that seas will be rough in central and northern atolls and moderate in the south.
Winds will be northwest to northerly at 13 – 23 miles per hour over the north and central atolls and 54 – 15 miles per hour over the southern atolls. Winds may gust to 40 miles per hour during showers. The department predicts scattered showers with a few thunderstorms to prevail over the country in the next 24 hours.
With Maldives currently in southwest monsoon, the weather remains occasionally rainy, with a few thunderstorms. Some islands have been experiencing swell waves surges during high tides as well.
