Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has started the work to deliver mini buses to the islands.
MTCC disclosed that the company has started the work to deliver mini buses to Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Laamu Atoll, on July 24.
MTCC disclosed that the first shipment of the mini buses ordered by the company was brought to Maldives on July 16. The first shipment consisted of 36 mini buses out of the 41 buses ordered. The remaining five buses were brought to Maldives on July 18.
Speaking to Raajje mv, CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim stated that these buses will be operated in Male' City, Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Laamu Atoll.
He also highlighted that the company is working on to start the mini bus operations in Male' City on July 31.
Stating that the company is working to start the operation of mini buses in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Laamu Atoll on July 31 as well, Azim stated that MTCC will be working to deliver the buses to the designated cities and islands as early as possible.
Speaking further, Azim noted that the company is yet to get any answer from the Male' City Council, to start work on the bus-stands to be established in Male' City, even though the company had requested for the permit. Azim stated that once the bus stands are established, the buses will be scheduled to be at every stand, in every ten minutes.
Furthermore, Azim noted that the company would need the support of the public to smoothly kick off the mini bus operation. He advised to follow the traffic regulations and urged the public not to park in areas that are not designated for parking.
The mini buses can carry around 25 people at a time. As such the bus has a total of 20 seats and can carry another additional five passengers. The buses also include special seats for people with disabilities. Additionally, it is made convenient for those who use wheelchairs.
MTCC states that 12 out of the 41 mini buses will be operating in the Male' City. The rest will be distributed among Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Laamu Atoll.
