Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has extended the white alert, issued over the entire country due to adverse weather conditions, late Wednesday.
An advisory issued earlier on Wednesday afternoon, stated that heavy rain showers and thunderstorms with winds gusting at 45 miles per hour were expected across the entire Maldives between 5pm and 11pm on Wednesday.
It has however, been extended once again and will be effective through 4am, Thursday.
The department has also urged seafarers to remain alert in event of the worsening weather condition, with a wave height of three to six feet is expected during showers.
MMS also revealed that seas will be rough in central and northern atolls, becoming moderate to rough during showers in the south.
Winds will be southwest to westerly at five to 15 miles per hour in the south and west to northwesterly at 13 - 23 miles per hour elsewhere. The department predicts scattered rain with a few heavy showers and thunderstorms to prevail over the country in the next 24 hours.
With Maldives currently in southwest monsoon, the weather remains occasionally rainy, with a few thunderstorms.
Some islands have been experiencing swell waves surges during high tides as well.
