The “Raajje Transport Link" ferry service has brought convenience for residents of Nellaidhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll, says the island council.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with Nellaidhoo councilors on Sunday, where he was briefed on the issues and concerns facing the island residents presently.
The councilors also expressed delight regarding the introduction of the ferry service, which they said the residents appreciated.
Recalling their previous meeting with the president in 2019, the councilors noted that many of the concerns they raised then are being addressed presently.
As such, the incumbent administration has completed the harbor, football field and coastal protection projects, with the project to develop a new powerhouse currently underway.
The meeting also saw councilors expressing gratitude for the extraordinary levels of development the island has been seeing under the leadership of President Solih.
Discussions also touched down on issues regarding levelling roads, addressing the lack of space at the island school, as well as establishing proper waste management facilities.
Further, the councilors requested the government to bring the neighboring uninhabited island of Hirinaidhoo under the council’s jurisdiction.
Listening to the councilors, the president talked about his priority on speaking with island councilors and other representative, to ensure development reaches all regions equally.
He also assured the councilors that he will seek ways to address the concerns raised by them and detailed the plans the incumbent government has to work with relevant government agencies to address the school's issues and develop a new office building for the council secretariat.
