The Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori, paid a courtesy call on First Lady Fazna Ahmed.

The call was held at the President’s Official Residence, Mule'aage, on Tuesday.

At the meeting, the First Lady and the Ambassador shed light on the two countries' long-standing cooperation and bilateral ties.

Highlighting Japanese aid to Maldives in the education sector, First Lady Fazna expressed her gratitude for the tremendous contributions made by the Japanese government across all sectors of the Maldives.

The Ambassador noted that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Japan. She shared her ideas for a vibrant commemoration of the occasion with the First Lady.

Both the ladies spoke at length on culture, people-to-people connections, and prospects for collaboration in the education and social sectors, during the meeting.

First Lady and the Ambassador expressed hope for further strengthening relations through collaborations on shared interests.

The Maldives and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1967.
