Bank of Maldives (BML) has established outdoor reading areas in two islands under the bank's Community Fund initiative.
The country’s national bank announced the successful completion of projects in Thakandhoo island in Haa Alif atoll and Fonadhoo island of Laamu atoll, as part of its Community Fund initiative, on Saturday.
As such, outdoor reading areas were established in Thakandhoo and Fonadhoo.
The outdoor reading area in Thakandhoo School was transformed with huts and bookshelves for students to enjoy.
Community bookshelves were also established around the island.
Prior to this project, students used the school office as a library. Our aim was to provide a space both for students to read books and to use for outdoor class activities. We will be organizing an island wide book donation campaign to add more books to the outdoor library and community bookshelves.”Thakandhoo Ekuveringe Rooh.
Further, the reading area in Fonadhoo will be utilized by students of Laamu Atoll Education Center and is designed with bookshelves, tables and a seating area.
Winner of the project, Fathmath Shaheedha from Parent Teacher Association of Laamu Atoll Education Center revealed that this is a much-needed space that will help instill the love for reading among students.
The Community Fund is an initiative of BML to empower individuals to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects. The Fund supports projects in the thematic areas of education, environment, sports and community development.
