President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly Abdulla Shahid announced that he will remain in New York due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
Shahid tweeted that he have decided to remain in New York due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine and potential developments in the Security Council tomorrow.
Shahid have previously stated that peace cannot be achieved by using military power and that such a peace would not last long. In his speech to UN GA regarding the Russia Ukrane crisis, he highlighted that the very first line of UN charter states that "the peoples of the United Nations Determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war".
He said that before 1945 the world has seen two wars which brought untold sorrow to mankind and urged to find a diplomatic solution.
Shahid stated that even though he will not be travelling to Geneva to attend the forty-ninth regular session of the UN Human Rights Council, he will be sending a video a message.
