Two more fatalities have pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death toll 292.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported the death of a 90-year-old man on Sunday night. The patient succumbed to complications of Covid-19 at 08:50am on Sunday, while receiving treatment at the Addu Equatorial Hospital. He was the 291st victim.
The second fatality was reported with the death of an 80-year-old man who was receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Medical Facility before being pronounced dead by doctors at around 12:15am on Monday.
Both victims were locals.
This comes a few days after the last coronavirus victim was reported; a 92-year-old Maldivian woman.
The total number of Covid-19 victims to have been reported this month has been pushed to 16.
The total number of Covid-19 fatalities reported this year has been pushed to 30; 14 victims were confirmed in January.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. June saw 50 Covid-19 fatalities, followed by 10 in July. Five Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed in August and in September. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.
212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
