Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, the Minister of State for South and Central Asia, UN and the Commonwealth, and Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict of the United Kingdom, is in the Maldives on an official visit.
Lord Ahmad arrived in the Maldives on Tuesday morning and was received by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Velana International Airport.
During his visit, Lord Ahmad is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as well as Speaker of the People’s Majlis and Former President Mohamed Nasheed.
The agenda of his visit also includes bilateral talks with State Minister Khaleel.
Lord Ahmad will be attending the official reception to inaugurate the British High Commission office in Malé as well.
The trip will also see Lord Ahmad visiting southernmost Addu City.
This is the first high level visit to the Maldives from the United Kingdom since 2018.
