Former President Mohamed Nasheed, who has been living in self-imposed exile after a 13-year jail sentence against him, has on Thursday arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Nasheed was welcomed by Ahmed Naseem, his administration’s foreign minister, former parliamentarian Hamid Abdul Ghafoor, and Umar Abdul Razzaq, a member of the Maldivian Democratic Party’s national assembly.

While the party is yet to release any details of Nasheed’s visit, RaajjeMV understands that he will work towards making preparations for MDP’s congress, which is to held in September, and would also meet with foreign missions stationed in Sri Lanka – notably about Maldives’ decision to sever ties with Qatar.

Nasheed recently headed a delegation of opposition leaders in Berlin, Germany.
