Hassan Kalaam has been appointed the Director of Islamic Banking at the Bank of Maldives.

The country’s national bank revealed that Kalaam is a licensed Shariah advisor with over 10 years’ experience in financial services and the banking industry.

BML’s new Director of Islamic Banking has played a key role in contributing to the success of the bank’s “steadily” growing arm of Islamic Banking, since joining BML in 2013.

Most recently, Kalaam served as the Interim-in-charge of BML Islamic.

Following this appointment, BML’s CEO and Managing Director Timothy Sawyer expressed his confidence that the new appointee will bring his “valuable” expertise in Islamic Banking to meet the evolving needs of BML’s customers.
