Maldives Covid-19 death toll has risen to 284.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as a 67-year-old local woman, who is the eighth Covid-19 victim to have been reported so far in February.

Doctors at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility pronounced her dead at around 08:50 pm on Sunday. She was the third Covid-19 victim reported on Sunday.

The first was a 75-year-old Maldivian woman who was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the same facility, at around 01:42pm. This was followed by the death of a 21-year-old youth at around 03:40 pm.

The total number of Covid-19 fatalities reported this year has been pushed to 22; 14 victims were confirmed in January.

The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. June saw 50 Covid-19 fatalities, followed by 10 in July. Five Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed in August and in September. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.

212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
