Maldives has reported a Covid-19 fatality from Addu City.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the victim was identified as a Bangladeshi national aged 34.
The man was pronounced dead by doctors at the health center in Feydhoo district of the southernmost city at around 8am on Friday.
This has pushed the Covid-19 death toll in Maldives to 265 and comes a little over a week after the last fatality was confirmed. The last victim was a Maldivian man, aged 79 who was wheeled into the Emergency Room of Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) ON January 6.
This is the third Covid-19 fatality to have been confirmed this ongoing month.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June last year while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.
212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
