A 62-year-old local has died from Covid-19 complications.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as Maldivian man who was brought to the Haa Alif Atoll Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors at 10:30am on Wednesday.
This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death toll to 259, of which 209 have been reported during 2021.
This comes just days after the last Covid-19 fatality was reported, with the death of an 80-year-old Maldivian woman who was being treated at Baa Atoll Covid Management Facility.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November.
Nine Covid-19 fatalities have been reported so far in December.
