President and first lady attends Riveli Awards 2021 ceremony
Efforts are underway to ease services for children and persons with disabilities, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Taking the podium at the ceremony held on Saturday to confer Riveli Awards 2021, President Solih revealed that his administration is currently working to ease services for disabled persons and children, adding that the initiatives by the government focus on easing services to disabled persons.
He further highlighted that his administration launched a programme in 2019 to include therapeutic treatment under the Aasandha National Health Insurance Scheme, under which the state spent MVR 3.1 million in 2019, MVR 7.2 million in 2020 and MVR 18.2 million by the end of October 2021.
Solih further stated that the government has continued to provide monthly disability allowances even throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Shedding light on the importance of giving love, care and kind treatment for the disabled, the president noted that the government is making efforts to ease the availability of mobility aids and assistive technologies for disabled persons.
The ceremony saw President Solih conferring awards to six recipients of the Riveli Awards 2021.

The ceremony was joined by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, who conferred special awards to seven winners of the “Riveli Thari” competition held to showcase the talents of children with disabilities.
