Maldives has confirmed another Covid-19 fatality.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as an 81-year-old local woman.
She was receiving treatment at the Addu Covid Management Facility before being pronounced dead, at 2:13am on Thursday.
With this, Maldives Covid-19 death toll has risen to 243. 12 Covid-19 fatalities have been reported so far in October.
The 12th Covid-19 victim of the month has been confirmed a few days after the latest deaths were reported. As such, the 241st Covid-19 victim was identified as an 86-year-old Maldivian man who was receiving treatment at the Addu Covid Management Facility before succumbing to complications of the virus on Tuesday, this was followed by the death of another local man, 74, who was receiving treatment at the same facility.
Of the 243 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 193 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus. September also saw five deaths.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
