Maldives has reported the 10th Covid-19 fatality of October.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the latest Covid-19 victim has been identified as an 86-year-old Maldivian man.
The patient was receiving treatment at the Addu Covid Management Facility before succumbing to complications of the virus at around 12:10am on Tuesday.
With this, Maldives Covid-19 death toll has risen to 241.
This comes less than a week after the last coronavirus fatality was reported when a 44-year-old local woman receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of Hulhumalé Medical Facility died on October 21.
Of the 241 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 191 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus. September also saw five deaths.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
