The housing project planned for 2022 will ease the struggles facing the community of Rasdhoo island in Alif Alif atoll, due to housing shortages, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
As part of his ongoing two-day tour of six islands in Alif Alif atoll, President Solih met with residents of Rasdhoo island and affirmed his commitment to continue to listen to their concerns and ease their burdens.
During the meeting held at the Atoll Education Centre, President Solih revealed that 90 percent of the projects promised for the island by the incumbent administration have been initiated and are in different stages of progress.
President Solih stated that the main purpose of his travels nationwide is to listen to the suggestions and opinions of the public and to understand challenges facing the daily lives of citizens nationwide.
Shedding light on the downward spiral the country’s economy had been on due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Solih noted that the government was successful in controlling the pandemic with the firm support of the public, marking a positive upturn for the Maldives' economy in the future.
Adding that a project to construct additional classrooms and a multi-purpose hall at Rasdhoo School has been opened for tender in order to address difficulties at the school arising from space scarcity alongside a project to establish an ice plant on the island as per the requests from the local fisher community, the president said that the government has also been making efforts to ease the erosion issues faced by the island, however he noted that more work still needs to be done to address the matter fully.
He also acknowledged the concerns of the island’s youth community on the issue of “Madivaru Finolhu”, assuring that work will be conducted to find a suitable solution.
Rasdhoo is President Solih’s second destination on his trip, the first being Thoddoo. A delegation of cabinet ministers and senior government officials accompany the president during the trip.
