An 87-year-old local man has succumbed to complications of Covid-19.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the deceased was being treated at the Addu Covid Management Facility before being pronounced dead at 6:35pm on Monday.
This has pushed the Maldives death toll from coronavirus to 239.
This is the eighth Covid-19 victim to have been reported this ongoing month.
The latest coronavirus victim was identified as an 80-year-old local man who was receiving treatment at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility. He died on Sunday morning.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
Of the 239 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 189 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus. September also saw five deaths.
