The Psychology Association of Villa College has been inaugurated.
First Lady Fazna Ahmed inaugurated the Psychology Association of Villa College during an event conducted to celebrate the World Mental Health Day 2021.
Taking the podium at the event, First Lady Fazna shed light on the importance of mental health professional adhering to the ethics of mental welfare and refraining from professional standards being compromised.
Applauding the college’s efforts to promote mental heath awareness, the first lady expressed hope that the college will embrace mental wellbeing as a strategic priority and become the leading college in the efforts to promote mental wellbeing.
The first lady went on to cite studies that show that one in four persons suffer from mental health issues across the globe, and noted the requirement of establishing a support system for mental health patients.
She went on to highlight that Covid-19 is estimated to have a “lasting” impact on communities globally with international experts in the field predicting a “tsunami of mental health issues” to follow.
Fazna added that local experts from the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital Mental Health Department have related this to the increasing number of patients being waitlisted for treatment each day. With this being said, the first lady called on authorities to put in their best efforts to provide better mental health services.
Highlighting that not everyone needs to be a psychologist to help, First Lady Fazna noted that everyone can still treat each other with compassion.
The Rector of Villa College Dr. Ahmed Anwar, Vice Rector Ali Najeeb, senior officials, staff members and students joined the event.
