The new appointee has a Masters in Human Rights Law

Samaau Ahmed Najeeb has been appointed a new member to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented the new member with her letter of appointment during a special ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday.

Supreme Court Justice Aisha Shujoon Mohamed administered the new HRCM member’s oath of office.

Most recently employed as a Senior State Attorney at the Attorney General’s Office, Samaau has a Master of Human Rights Law, attained from the Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, Australia in 2018.

Other positions filled by the new appointee include State Attorney at the AGO, from 2015 as well as Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in India from 2010 - 2011.

The HRCM member has participated in an extensive range of professional workshops, seminars and forums.

She is also a member of the Maldives Governmental expert team for the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).

Appointments to HRCM are made under the powers vested to the president under Section 5(a) of the Human Rights Commission Act (Act 6/2006), which stipulates that the members of HRCM shall be appointed by the president after parliamentary approval.
