The government has announced the decision to confer this year’s National Awards for Public Service on two separate occasions.
The President’s Office revealed that they received an abundant number of applications for the National Award for Public Service, which stemmed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s decision to confer them on two separate occasions after deliberations with the National Awards Committee.
Meeting with the committee members, the president expressed delight with the numerous applications received for the prestigious National Award for Public Service.
After deliberations, the president decided that it was not reasonable for the awards to be conferred to so many people at the same time. With this the decision was reached to confer awards during the Independence Day and National Unity Day celebrations, separately.
Recipient of the Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin and Chairperson of the National Awards Committee, Aneesa Ahmed revealed that the selection process of the award recipients is almost complete.
She went on to note that a lot of individuals faced difficulty with the application process, as this was the first time nominations had been opened for the National Award for Public Service. The issues that faced applicants included submitting supporting documents that were required to complete the application process.
As most of the nominees deserve the award, Ameena stated that the committee reached the decision to give the applicants a second chance to submit the missing documents required to be submitted along with the applications.
The committee will be reaching out to these applicants to notify them regarding the missing documents, soon.
The National Awards Committee has received a total of 270 applications for the National Award for Public Service by the application deadline, with 72 applications having been received for this year’s national award by August 12.
