State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) stated that the vehicles with their logo are the ones being utilized by a Chinese company for the Fifth Power Project.
Complains of a Chinese company using STELCO’s logos on their vehicles have been circulating on social media. Some people stated that this action would be considered illegal.
While speaking to RaajjeMV, STELCO’s media official affirmed that these vehicles have STELCO’s logos because they are being utilized for the Fifth Power Project or the Greater Male’ Connection Grid Project, conducted by China’s Dongfang Electric Corporation, in collaboration with STELCO, in order to solve the electricity issues faced by the Greater Male’ region.
The Greater Male’ Connection Grid Project is the biggest power project to take place in the Maldives. Although the project has concluded, STELCO affirmed that in the following month, the power produced by this project will be monitored and assessed.
Under this project, four transformers of 95 Megawatts have been established in Male’ and Hulhumale’ and two transformers of eight Megawatts have been established in Hulhule’. The interconnection cable formed by joining six cables together to connect the whole Greater Male’ Area is expected to produce a total of 100 Megawatts.
