With 334 second doses of the Covid-19 vaccination administered on Saturday, 301,523 individuals have now completed both jabs in the Maldives.
According to the Health Protection Agency’s (HPA) latest updates, a total of 1,114 vaccine doses were administered on Saturday. This includes 780 first and 334 second doses.
258 of the 780 first doses administered were from the Greater Male Area, and 522 were from outlying atolls. Further, 188 of the second doses were from the Greater Male Area, and 146 were from atolls.
Considering the new developments, 382,677 have received a first vaccine dose while 301,523 persons have completed both doses. Hence, 81,154 persons currently await the second dose.
More residents across the Maldives have begun attending vaccinations for their first doses as authorities set a deadline for the administration of first doses of AstraZeneca vaccine Maldives received and is currently administering, on September 1, as the supply will expire in November.
Those who are eligible for the vaccination, but remain unvaccinated will face stringent restrictions starting September 1st. For instance, only those who have received at least the first dose of a coronavirus vaccination will be permitted to use public transport including domestic air travel.
Furthermore, all civil servants unable to get the Covid-19 vaccine for various reasons, are required to undergo Covid-19 testing fortnightly from September. Employees advised against vaccination, due to pre-existing medical conditions by a medical doctor registered in the Maldives, are also urged to become immunized as their health allows.
The government launched the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive on February 1.
Authorities have also launched a vaccination drive for children aged 12-17. This campaign is being conducted together with the education ministry, with awareness programs held for parents as their consent is required for children's vaccination. Over 30,000 children in the age group were vaccinated within the first 10 days.
