The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed Monday’s second Covid-19 fatality.
Identified as a 49-year-old local woman, the deceased was being treated for the fatal infection at Hulhumalé Medical Facility (HMF).
She was pronounced dead by doctors at the facility at 2:30pm.
This comes hours after Maldives confirmed the 224th Covid-19 death, when a 92-year-old local woman brought to the Addu Covid Management Facility was declared dead by doctors at 7:30am on Monday.
This is the third death within the past two days, and the fourth Covid-19 fatality of the month.
After 18 days of no fatalities linked to Covid-19 reported nationwide, the reported the death of a 75-year-old local woman being treated for coronavirus at Hulhumalé Medical Facility (HMF) on Sunday morning at 11:20am.
Of the 225 deaths linked to coronavirus, 175 have been reported thus far in 2021.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
