Maldives Covid-19 case tally now stands at 79,754 with less than 100 new cases confirmed on Friday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported 95 new coronavirus infections on Friday, from 5,675 samples tested within 24 hours. These include 62 from inhabited islands, 24 new cases from the Greater Male’ Area and nine from operational resorts.
Further, with the additional 57 recoveries reported on Friday, a total of 77,770 patients have recovered in the island nation since March last year when the first coronavirus case was confirmed.
As of now, there are a total of 1,750 active Covid-19 cases across the Maldives.
While the country has confirmed 222 fatalities to Covid-19, there are currently 16 patients being treated in hospitals and Covid-19 treatment facilities.
A fourth Covid-19 wave was confirmed in May after authorities had lifted the measures in place observing a decline in cases. Thereby, restrictions were once again strengthened.
However, in the beginning of July, many restrictions were eased in time for Eid-Al-Adha and Independence Day Holidays. While more eases were announced this month, this includes allowing parties, gatherings and events, as long as protocols set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) are followed. Furthermore, employees are allowed to return to their workplace and are required to submit a PCR test result every 14 days if they have not been vaccinated. Additionally, restaurants and cafés have been given permission to provide dine-in services as long as their staff are vaccinated.
The eases also include allowing fully vaccinated individuals to travel within the country without the need to quarantine after submitting a negative PCR test result. These rules only apply to islands that are not under monitoring.
There are currently a total of 18 islands placed under monitoring due to Covid-19, with measures on 13 islands placed just this month. Islands are placed under monitoring following the detection of a Covid-19 case, to conduct the necessary procedures including contact tracing to avoid a further spread.
The state of public health emergency announced on Match 12th 2020 has been extended a 17th time to expire on September 1st.
