Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has said the recommendations by the parliament's committee on national security services will be implemented under the National Security Advisor’s Office's counsel.
In a letter sent to the People's Majlis, MNDF said that discussions regarding the 241 committee report was held during the National Security Council meeting on July 12.
While the President's Office had then said that discussions at the meeting were focused on "conducting further research on the recommendations and on how to proceed with implementing the recommendations outlined in the report", a National Security Council meeting was convened in August as well.
In a press released issued after this meeting, the Office said the president and security council members discussed the "immediate, short-term and long-term recommendations" adding that 38 of the recommendations proposed in the report are in the process of being implemented.
MNDF's clarification that the recommendations are being enforced by the National Security Advisor’s Office was after Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s May 6 Committee revealed that the the efforts put to meet with MNDF was unsuccessful.
Main ruling MDP formed the May 6 Committee following the assassination attempt on their leader, Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed, on the 6th of May this year.
Committee Chair and Majlis representative for Vilufushi constituency, Hassan Afeef made the claim after noting that the May 6 committee met with officials from the National Security Advisor’s Office on Wednesday.
Further, Afeef revealed that the Office had informed them that all 45 recommendation in the 241 committee report will be implemented towards the end of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's term.
