65 percent of HA. Dhidhdhoo shore protection project is now complete.

This venture was assigned to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). While giving recent updates regarding this project, MTCC said that "work on the design and build of shore protection structures at Ha. Dhihdhoo is ongoing with overall 65 percent project progress".

MTCC had said that the work after digging and evening out of the ground comprises of filling in 7,750 cubic meters of ground as well as 1,926 meters of sand required for using the 'Jio' bags. An area of 310 meters of Jio bag revetments will be on place in order to prevent the issue of soil erosion.

This project costs MVR 10.02 million.

In order to commence this project, MTCC’s teams and machineries were taken to Dhidhdhoo on 25th February 2021. And they were mobilized onsite by 28th February 2021.

After observation of the Dhidhdhoo beach protection project, the CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim stated that the main aim is to complete the project at a fast pace, preferably by the end of September. MTCC also aims to promptly and efficiently conclude all government assigned projects relating to development, at a quality standard.

Under this project, 280 meters of land will be protected.

Soil erosion in Dhidhdhoo is a matter that very much concerns the citizens. As of now Dhidhdhoo is home to almost 5,000 people.

Within this year’s budget, a total MVR 40 million was designated for development schemes in Dhidhdhoo.

Work on Dhidhdhoo’s harbour is also being carried out by MTCC. Moreover, the materials required for building Dhidhdhoo’s ferry terminal has also been transferred there and the physical work shall begin very soon, says Azim.
