Under the government’s “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive 4,799 persons received vaccination doses on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s vaccination doses included 2,323 residents of the Greater Malé Region, deemed the Covid-19 epicenter of the Maldives, whereas 2, 476 atoll residents were administered shots.
Of the 1,279 first doses administered on Tuesday according to the latest vaccination update publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 598 were Greater Malé residents and 681 living in outlying atolls.
Of the second doses, 1,795 were given to atoll residents, with 1,725 administered to Malé residents.
The total number of persons who completed both vaccine doses has risen to 278,469, whereas the number of persons who have received a first dose sits at 326,339.
With this the number of persons awaiting second doses has dropped to 47,870.
There are currently three mobile teams active across six vaccination centers in the capital region and 176 vaccination centers spanning outlying atolls.
The incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive on February 1 and recently the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed that they are now in the final stages of the campaign and the aim is to vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population by the end of August, according to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
In his address to the public in commemoration of Independence Day, President Solih revealed that the government aims to have 90 percent of the eligible population vaccinated by August. Over the past weekend HEOC kickstarted the last Covid-19 vaccination campaign or the "final push" across Maldives populous capital Malé City.
Authorities resumed administering the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccination on July 4 after months, on an appointment-basis. Vaccinations across outlying atolls are also proceeding at a swift pace. Authorities recently resumed administering second doses of Sinopharm to those who have observed three weeks since receiving the first jab.
In mid-July HEOC revealed that 50 percent of the eligible population in Maldives has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
