Over 274,000 persons have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 across Maldives.

A total of 4,889 individuals received vaccine doses nationwide on Monday, including 2,158 residents of the Greater Malé Region, deemed the Covid-19 epicenter of the Maldives, whereas 2,731 atoll residents were administered shots.

Under the government’s “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive 1,492 first doses and 3,397 second doses were administered on Monday.

According to the latest vaccination update publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Sunday’s first doses were given to 860 Malé residents and 632 atoll residents.

Of the second doses, 2,099 were given to atoll residents, with 1,298 administered to Malé residents.

With this development, the total number of persons who completed both vaccine doses has risen to 274,949, whereas the number of persons who have received a first dose sits at 325,060. This means that 50,111 persons are awaiting their second vaccination shots.

There are currently three mobile teams active across six vaccination centers in the capital region and 176 vaccination centers spanning outlying atolls.

The incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive on February 1 and recently the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed that they are now in the final stages of the campaign and the aim is to vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population by the end of August, according to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

In his address to the public in commemoration of Independence Day, President Solih revealed that the government aims to have 90 percent of the eligible population vaccinated by August. Over the past weekend HEOC kickstarted the last Covid-19 vaccination campaign or the "final push" across Maldives populous capital Malé City.

Authorities resumed administering the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccination on July 4 after months, on an appointment-basis. Vaccinations across outlying atolls are also proceeding at a swift pace. Authorities recently resumed administering second doses of Sinopharm to those who have observed three weeks since receiving the first jab.

In mid-July HEOC revealed that 50 percent of the eligible population in Maldives has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
