Maziya wins match against Al-Ittihad Club as part of AFC Cup group stage trainings

Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has won a match against Al-Ittihad Club as a part of trainings at the Saudi Arabia camp, in preparation for the upcoming group stage matches in the AFC Cup 2021.

The match was won by Maziya with a score of 2-1, the opposing team being the U-19 Al-Ittihad team. Maziya’s goals were scored by Vincentian player Cornelius Stewart, and Naiz 'Dhaadhu' Hassan. This is the first match played by Maziya at the training camp after their departure on July 24.

This training camp was an opportunity sought out for the team to train for the upcoming AFC Cup’s South Asia Group Matches, by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). The team is set to return to Maldives after concluding the training sessions, on August 14th.

In addition to Maziya, AFC Cup’s Group Stage currently comprises of India's ATK Mohun Bagan FC and Bangladesh's Bashundhara Kings.

Before Maziya travelled to Saudi Arabia for the trainings, they had begun the sessions in Maldives on 10th July.

As of now, AFC has settled to have the AFC Cup Group D matches in the Maldives.  As scheduled by AFC, Maldives’ Club Eagles and India’s Bengaluru FC will compete in the playoffs match on the 15th of August. Following this, the group stage matches will commence on 18th, 21st, and 24th of this month.

In accordance with the current decisions, Maziya will play their first match on the 18th, against Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings. The match taking place on 21st will be between Maziya and Mohun Bagan and the teams playing in the third match on the 24th will be the winners of the playoffs match between the Eagles Club and Bengaluru FC.
