Maldives coronavirus total has surpassed 77,000 with the 141 new cases reported on Wednesday.
According to the latest daily figures updated by Health Protection Agency (HPA), the cases were confirmed from the 5,152 samples tested within 24 hours; 98 of the reported cases are from outlying atolls, 22 from the Greater Male Area, 20 from operational resorts while a single case was reported from industrial islands.
Atolls continue to report the highest number of cases in the Maldives, since June.
While this pushes the country's Covid-19 case count to 77,094, there are currently 2,527 active coronavirus cases with 14 patients hospitalized for treatment. And with the 225 recoveries reported on Wednesday, Maldives’ total recovery number now sits at 74,335.
So far, there have been 220 Covid-19 fatalities, with the last one reported on Tuesday.
After the authorities lifted the measures in place in time for the fasting month of Ramadan 1442, in the beginning of May, following a fresh outbreak of Covid-19 cases which was declared as the fourth wave. This led authorities to strengthen the safety guidelines across the island nation once more. Following a steady decrease in the cases, in early July, a number of these measures were eased in time for Eid-Al-Adha and Independence Day holidays.
Maldives remains in a state of public health emergency since 12 March 2020 which was last extended to expire on 2 August.
