Under the government’s “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive, 307 persons received doses on Monday.
According to the latest vaccination update publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Monday’s vaccinations included 58 first doses and 249 second doses.
14 Greater Malé residents and 293 atoll residents were vaccinated nationwide.
Only two residents in the capital city received first doses on Monday, the remaining 56 first doses were administered to atoll residents. Of the 249 second doses, 237 were given to atoll residents, with the remaining 12 administered to Malé residents.
The total number of persons to been fully vaccinated against the global pandemic has been pushed to 261,605 with these developments, whereas the number of persons who have received first doses sits at 321,429. This means that 59,824 persons are awaiting their second vaccination shots.
There are currently three mobile teams active across six vaccination centers in the capital region and 176 vaccination centers spanning outlying atolls.
The incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive on February 1.
Authorities resumed administering the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccination on July 4 after months, on an appointment-basis. Vaccinations across outlying atolls are also proceeding at a swift pace. On Wednesday, authorities will resume administering second doses of Sinopharm to those who have observed three weeks since receiving the first jab at Senahiya Hospital.
In mid-July the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed that 50 percent of the eligible population in Maldives has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. In his address to the public in commemoration of Independence Day on Tuesday, President Solih revealed that the government aims to have 90 percent of the eligible population vaccinated by August.
The president noted that the country currently has sufficient stocks to administer two doses to those who are awaiting second doses.
