14 residential islands are still under under monitoring due to Covid-19.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Monday publicized a list of islands still under monitoring, which means that those travelling to these islands are required to quarantine.

According to HPA, GDh. Thinadhoo has been under monitoring for the longest period of time; since April 24.

Five of the 14 islands have been under monitoring since May; F. Feeali from May 2, Fuvahmulah City from May 6, GA. Villingilli from May 15, AA. Thoddoo from May 24 and R. Dhuvaafaru from 25 May.

GA. Kooddoo has been under monitoring since June 12, while measures were put in place in HA. Dhihdhoo on June 24 and R. Meedhoo on June 30.

Five islands have been placed under monitoring thus far in July; measures have been in place in K. Guraidhoo since July 7 while they were placed on Sh. Foakaidhoo, GDh. Nadella and K. Kaashidhoo on July 13. AA. Rasdhoo was placed under monitoring since July 17.

Further, measures placed on Addu City on May 1 were lifted on Monday.

While the coronavirus cases in outlying atolls had been under control for the majority of the pandemic, cases reported from islands increased during the fourth wave seen in April. Currently, cases reported from residential islands exceed that of epicenter capital Male'.

However, the country's Covid-19 situation has been improving, and as reported daily cases increase as well as vaccinations, safety restrictions across the country are being eased.

As such, fully vaccinated individuals can now travel between islands without having to quarantine, with the isolation period for inbound passengers reduced to seven days.
