President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has added two days to the upcoming government holidays ‘to ease travel plans for government employees and to allow continuity of the holiday’.

This was announced on Tuesday, with the President’s Office saying that the decision was made as it follows two government holidays; Eid al-Adha and the Independence Day holidays.

While Hajj Day is on the 19th, government offices will be closed from 18 – 22 July for Eid holidays. 16 and 17 July is the weekend as well as the 23rd and 24th, hence government employees will get a nine-day break for Eid.

Further, 26 - 30 July have been declared as holidays in relation to Independence Day. 25th July (a Sunday) was declared as a holiday as well to fill the gap between the two holidays.

Now, the president has added 28 July and 29 July to the government holidays with offices to reopen on August 1.

With this decision, government employees will get a total of 16 days leave for both Eid al-Adha and Independence Day.
