Qatar Airways has decided to increase the frequency of daily flights to Maldives for the summer season.

The airline is operating four flights daily to Maldives now instead of the previous three.

Qatar Airways said the change was brought because of the increased demand for flights to Maldives. It expects the number of tourists arriving to the island to increase during summer.

While Qatar along with many others stopped operating flights to the Maldives following border closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic on March 27 last year, it was the first commercial flight to land at Velana International Airport after the nearly four-month closure ended on 15th July 2020.

Since the borders were reopened, there have been a number of visitors from middle eastern nations. Qatar Airways brings in tourists from 65 regions to the Maldives. Its flights also connect Maldives and Europe, bringing in many tourists from that particular region.

The airline increased daily flights to three in December.

According to the statistics of the Tourism Ministry, Maldives is now in business with a total of 30 airlines which includes 21 airlines with scheduled visits and nine airlines with charted travels.
