Over 2,000 second doses of the Covid-19 vaccination were administered nationwide on Sunday.

According to the latest statistics published by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 2,481 second doses were administered to 2,119 Greater Malé residents and 362 atoll residents.

With this the total number of individuals fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in the Maldives has been pushed to 194,802.

HPA went on to reveal that Sunday’s 2,563 included 82 first doses, administered to 24 atoll residents and 58 Malé residents.

The number of persons who have received first doses nationwide sits at 317,398.

There are currently two mobile teams and six vaccination centers in the capital region whereas 193 vaccination centers are stationed across outlying atolls.

The incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive on February 1.

On Sunday Maldives resumed administering the India-sourced Covishield vaccination after receiving a new batch, on Saturday. It has been revealed that vaccine will be administered on an appointment basis and it has been about two months since authorities halted administering Covishield. Priority is to be given to those requiring a second jab of the Covishield vaccine,.

Maldives is also expected to receive an adequate supply of AstraZeneca vaccine doses between July 12 – 20.
