The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that those who are yet to observe three months since testing positive for Covid-19, will only be required to do PCR testing for Covid-19 if they present symptoms, after undergoing the required 14-day quarantine period if traveling to inhabited islands.
In a directive signed by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru, HPA revealed that the changes to quarantine guidelines will be effective for those who are yet to undergo three months since testing positive for Covid-19, travelling to inhabited islands from capital Malé City, resorts and islands with operational guesthouses.
Three months are to be determined from the date of positive sample collection.
According to the recent changes to quarantine procedure made by the public health authority, those who haven’t observed three months since testing positive for Covid-19 are also required to undergo quarantine. The earlier procedure did not require these individuals to quarantine.
Effective May 26, Maldives capital has been in an unofficial lockdown, with a curfew effective from 4pm to 8am and residents required to acquire special permits to go out even outside the curfew hours. Since the measures were strengthened following a devastating surge in Covid-19 daily cases, infections being reported on a single-day basis have been gradually declining, with less than 100 daily cases reported across the capital region on Saturday as well.
