President Rasheed's family have confirmed that he is now out of surgery and recovering, after having sustained injuries in an explosion that targeted him outside his home on Thursday night.

Speaker Nasheed's family confirm that while he has undergone three surgeries, he is currently doing will, and is expected to have a long road to recovery ahead of him.

Detailing the care provided to the Maldives' Speaker of Parliament, ADK Hospital revealed that former president Nasheed had to have multiple surgeries for injuries sustained in the blast. ADK went on to assure citizens and international observers that all operations had concluded successfully, and that Speaker Nasheed was now in recovery.

In the explosion which rocked one of Male' City's central streets on Thursday night, former president of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed had been injured along with three of his bodygyards, one civilian and one foreigner within the vicinity of the blast.

While Speaker Nasheed underwent surgeries at ADK Hospital through the night, others were also treated for injuries sustained in the explosion at ADK.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) are now investigating the attack, believed to be an act of terror targeting President Nasheed, along with support from allied governments in the United Kingdom, Australia, USA and India. Australian Federal Police officers will arrive in the Maldives on Saturday to help local authorities investigate the attack to the fullest.
