The second amendment to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act has been ratified.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the second amendment to the act on Thursday morning, upon which it has been publicized in the government gazette.
The People’s Majlis passed the newly ratified amendment to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act on 19 April at the 30th sitting of the first parliamentary session for the ongoing year.
The amendment to the legislation was brought to Article 23 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, which concerns the definition of corruption.
As such, the new amendment highlights that acts of corruption entail the criminal activities mentioned in Articles 510, 513, 515, 516, 517 and 518 of the Penal Code, along with any other act that is identified as corrupt in any decree. In addition it considers enabling an action that is deemed corrupt, to be an act of corruption.
In September 2020 the president ratified the fifth amendment to the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, mandating appointed members to publish their asset declaration and detailing clear ethical guidelines for ACC members to adhere to.
