President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has reaffirmed that the government’s efforts to ensure the rights of all workers in the Maldives, will continue.
In a Twitter post in commemoration of Labor Day or International Worker’s Day, the president expressed sincere gratitude to all workers across the island nation.
At a time Maldives is driving through mounting caseloads of the Covid-19 pandemic, the president noted that the hard work and perseverance of laborers in reversing the economic impacts of the pandemic, have started showing positive results.
With this being said the president revealed that the government will continue work to ensure the rights of all workers.
May Day is a celebration of laborers and the working classes and is marked on 1 May annually. Maldives started marking the day since the implementation of the Employment Act in 2008 which ensured several rights of workers across the island nation.
May Day, observed as a public holiday is many countries, was declared a public holiday during the administration of Former President and current Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
