With one more resort as well as 19 hotels and guesthouses having resumed operations over the past week, a total of 724 tourist accommodation facilities are currently in operation across Maldives.
According to the latest weekly statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism on Thursday, 433 guesthouses and hotels are operational with 9,136 tourist beds by Wednesday.
Latest statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism revealed that the archipelago nation, a popular holiday destination among zealous travelers, currently has 47,475 operational tourist beds across the 724 tourist facilities.
154 resorts have resumed operations since the island nation reopened borders for international travel, with 35,640 beds.
Of the total facility-capacity eight resorts as well as 280 guesthouses and hotels are yet to resume operations.
Over the past week, three more guesthouses resumed operations in Kaafu atoll, an additional guesthouse opened doors to tourists in Alif Alif atoll, one more in Baa atoll and one more in Vaavu atoll.
By Wednesday, Maldives tourist arrivals for the year had been pushed to a total of 383,630.
Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on 15 October 2020. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on 14 December 2020.
