Maldives currently has 701 operational tourist accommodation facilities, with 46,267 operational beds.

Latest statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism reveal out of the 701 facilities being operated, 403 are guesthouses with 7,326 operational beds, 150 resorts with a 34,784-bed capacity, 137 liveaboard vessels with 2,699 beds and 11 hotels currently in operation have a bed capacity of 1,458.

The popular island holiday destination has a 1,026-tourist facility capacity out of which nine resorts and 292 guesthouses are yet to resume operations.

Maldives tourist arrivals for 2021 was at 324,465 by Wednesday.

Over the past week, one more guesthouse resumed operations in Haa Alif atoll, four more in Kaafu atoll, one more in Alif Dhaal, one more in Vaavu,

Guesthouses currently in operation are:

  • Eight guesthouses in two islands of Haa Alif atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in Haa Dhaal atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Shaviyani atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Noonu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Lhaviyani atoll,
  • 22 guesthouses in eight islands of Baa atoll,
  • 167 guesthouses in 10 islands of Kaafu atoll,
  • 89 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Alif atoll,
  • 45 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Dhaal atoll,
  • 34 guesthouses in four islands of Vaavu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Meemu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Faafu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Thaa atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Gaaf Alif atoll,
  • Two guesthouses in one island of Laamu atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in three islands of Gaaf Dhaal atoll,
  • 15 guesthouses in Fuvahmulah City,
  • Eight guesthouses in four islands of Seenu atoll.

Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on October 15. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on December 14.
