President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has received his second Covishield vaccination dose.
In a Twitter post on Monday, the president confirmed that he had been administered his second dose of Covid-19 vaccination, at the Maldives Center for Social Education (MCSE). The president received his first Covishield shot on February 1, the day the government’s “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive was launched.
President Solih has urged all those who have received their first Covishield doses to seek their second shots if eight weeks have passed since receiving their first shot.
He also urged those who haven’t received their first dose to seek their shots as soon as possible, highlighting that the Maldivian communities can work together to beat Covid-19.
The incumbent administration launched the inoculation drive with the intention to vaccinate the entire population against the coronavirus pandemic.
While authorities temporarily discontinued administering the first vaccination doses on March 15, they resumed the second round of first doses with the Sinopharm vaccination on March 22. The public health authorities began administering the second Covishield doses on April 3.
Maldives currently has nine vaccination centers and two mobile teams working across the Greater Malé Region and 237 active vaccination centers across outlying atolls.
Alongside the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccination produced by India’s Serum Institute, the Food and Drug Authority has also authorized the use of Sinopharm vaccine produced by Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products of China and the Pfizer vaccine.
